Privacy Policy

Speedy is a performance meter: it times acceleration runs using your phone's GPS and accelerometer. This policy describes exactly what the app and its server collect, why, where it goes, and how to get rid of it. There are no ads in Speedy, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and we do not sell or rent any data.

The short version

• Your precise location is used while you're timing a run, in the foreground only. The route of your run stays on your phone.
• An account is an email address and a display name. You only need one to publish to the leaderboard.
• Publishing a run shares numbers — times, trap speeds, conditions, your car and username — never your GPS track or coordinates.
• You can delete your account and everything published from inside the app, or by emailing us.

Location

Speedy reads your precise (GPS) location while a measuring session is running, to compute speed, distance, altitude, slope and the ground track of the run. Location is used in the foreground only: on Android the app requests no background-location permission (an active measurement shows a visible notification), and on iOS it uses "while using the app" access.

The ground track of a run is saved on your device only, so the app can draw the run on a map for you. When you publish a run to the leaderboard, the track is stripped from the payload before it leaves your phone — the server never receives the route or the coordinates of a published run.

To show temperature, pressure and density altitude for a run, the app sends your current latitude and longitude to our server's weather endpoint. Our server forwards those coordinates to OpenWeatherMap to fetch current conditions and caches the reading for about ten minutes. The coordinates are used for the lookup and are not stored with your account.

Account

Creating an account stores your email address and a display name on our server. Email is used to sign you in and to send verification codes and account notices; the display name is the username shown next to anything you publish. Transactional emails (verification codes, email-change notices) are delivered through OneSignal.

Device analytics

When you sign up or sign in, the app sends one small snapshot to help us debug measurement problems across devices: platform (iOS/Android), app version and build, OS version, device model, locale, your speed-unit preference, and a random device identifier. That identifier is a UUID minted by the app itself and scoped to it — it is not an advertising ID, and it resets if you reinstall the app. Speedy contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDK, and no analytics are sent while you simply use the app.

Published leaderboard entries

Publishing a run is optional and explicit. A published entry is public and contains:

• the times you chose to publish (for example 0–60, 60–130, quarter mile) with trap speeds where applicable;
• run conditions: peak g, GPS accuracy, satellite count, slope, altitude, density altitude, temperature, and whether the start was standing or rolling;
• the vehicle you attached: year, make, model and mods text;
• your display name and the platform the run was recorded on.

The server derives the published times from the run data itself rather than accepting typed-in numbers, which keeps the boards honest. You can remove any of your own entries in the app, and deleting your account removes them all.

Diagnostic run logs

To debug GPS and timing problems, the app can upload a diagnostic log of a run — a compressed archive of the run's raw samples, which includes the GPS track of that run. Whether the app offers this is controlled by a server-side switch. Logs are stored in Cloudflare R2, are used only to investigate measurement behaviour, and are never published or shown to other users. A log uploaded while signed in is linked to your account; one uploaded without an account is linked only to a device-model string.

Diagnostic logs are kept when an account is deleted — they are the evidence for measurement bugs — but the deletion removes the link to your profile: what remains is the archive, a device model string and a timestamp. If you want uploaded logs erased entirely, email support@chateclipse.com and we will remove them.

Support email

If you contact support from inside the app, the prepared email includes your account identifier, device model, OS version and app version, so we can help without a round of questions. You can delete any of it before sending. Support mail is kept only as long as needed to resolve the issue.

Server logs

Like practically every web service, our server keeps short-lived operational logs of requests — IP address, endpoint, response code and timing — used for debugging, abuse prevention and rate limiting. Traffic to the service passes through Cloudflare, which acts as our network proxy.

What we don't do

• No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
• No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
• No background location. No location collection when you're not measuring.
• No selling, renting or trading of your data — with anyone.

Retention

• Runs you record live on your phone until you delete them or uninstall the app. They are not backed up to our server.
• Account, garage and published entries are kept until you delete them or delete the account.
• Diagnostic logs are kept until deleted by us, or on request.
• Operational server logs are short-lived and rotate automatically.

Deleting your account

In the app: Settings → your profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, profile, garage and every leaderboard entry you published. Runs saved locally on your phone are yours and stay on the device.

If you no longer have the app installed, email support@chateclipse.com from the address on the account and we will delete it. Full details are on the data safety & account deletion page.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data linked to your account, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@chateclipse.com. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), these may be legal rights with defined response times; we honour such requests for everyone regardless of where you live.

Children

Speedy is a driving instrument and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update this page and its effective date, and note the change in the app's release notes. The current version always lives at speedy.chateclipse.com/privacy.
